At the festival, onions are served with all sorts of foods... including BLUEBERRY PIEROGIES!

This chef took home the trophy for Best Onion Recipe. His dish was a shrimp and lobster cake with onion sauce.

You can't have the Hawaiian Onion Fest without onion-themed sand sculptures.

What's so special about the Maui Kula Onion?

It's so sweet, it can be eaten raw, like an apple!

The Hawaiian Kula onions grow on the upper slopes of the dormant volcano, Mount Haleakala

Their sweetness can be attributed to the warm island weather and the rich red volcanic soil in which they grow in.
