Goal: Design your own unique logo

Monday - Lesson 3:

Logos

There are two main types of logos: Pictorial Mark and Workmark.

Pictorial Mark Logos

A pictorial mark logo is a simple picture logo. The goal with this logo is for the picture to be recognizable with no words.  Target is a great example. What others can you think of?

Wordmark Logos

A wordmark logo is just a word with no pictures or shapes. This type of logo focuses on having a recognizable font and colors. Google is a great example. What others can you think of?

Design a combination logo

You are going to design a logo that has both a word and a picture. This is your website title.  If you have a business website, this will be the name of your business.  If not, this will be a short title that describes what your whole site is about.  In this example, I'm using the name of a candy company my son created: Sweets & Sours.

First, we'll work on the wordmark logo.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the ADD button

  2. Click TEXT

  3. Click ADD HEADING 1

Double click on the words Heading 1 that you just added to your page.  The words will highlight and you will be able to type in any word you want.  This will probably be the title of your website. Try to keep the title short, around 1-3 words. I'm using an example of a candy shop called Sweets & Sours.

  1. Click on your title and click Edit Text

  2. Go to the drop down fonts menu and click on any font you like.  You can keep changing the font as much as you want, so feel free to try them all out.

  3. Once you've found a font you like, try changing the size by dragging the slider under the words "Font size"

  4. The next step is to change the color.  Do this by clicking on the letter A with the colorful drop next to it. Choose any color you like.  And again, feel free to keep trying out new ones until you find one you think is perfect.

Then:

  2. Click GROUP ELEMENTS.
