Monday - Lesson 1:
Welcome - Let's get started!
Goal: Pick a topic, sign up, choose a template
In the next 5 days you will design an awesome, creative website that is all your own.
Your goal is to complete 3 lessons per day. (If you want to work ahead, go for it!)
You need to use a computer for this camp. Phones/tablets will not work.
I would love for you to try every lesson, however, if there is an element that you really do not want to have on your site, that's ok. This site is YOUR project, so make it as unique as you are!
What's your website topic? Before you begin you'll need a topic... what interests you?
Do you love to cook or bake? Share your latest creations and offer your very own recipes. Upload photos and share your passion with others.
Missing your family or friends? Upload photos, share stories, traditions, recipes, and memories. Keep everyone connected!
Do you love to draw, paint, make jewelry, build Legos, etc? Show off your artistic skills! Share creations and tell all about your latest projects.
What will YOUR topic be
Tell Mrs. E!

Time to get started! Sign up on Wix & choose a template
So you've chosen a topic... awesome! Let's jump right in a start your website. Here's how:
Go to wix.com
Click GET STARTED
Click SIGN UP
Type your email address (or your parents email if you don’t have your own). Do not use a school email address.
Use the password: steamstudio
Make sure the password is all lower case and all one word. You will change your password when this camp is over... but for now, I need to be able to get into your website editor so I can help you if I need to.
Click SIGN UP again
The site may or may not ask if you're a robot. If so, click I am not a robot and select the correct images
(it might take a minute or two for the word SKIP to show up)
Click Choose a Template.
This next step is very important! You can view any template before you make a choice of which one you want to use. There are a lot of templates to explore. When you see a template that looks interesting, hover over it and click VIEW. Keep in mind when you view the templates that you can change the titles, photos, colors, and pretty much anything else. Choosing a template that you think looks similar to what you want your website to look like will help your process be faster and easier. Take your time and look through a lot of templates!
Take time now to explore at least 3 different templates.
When you find a template that you’d like to use as your starting point, click EDIT THIS SITE.
If you’re having trouble choosing, feel free to ask me for help. That’s what I’m here for!
Note: A video might pop up in the middle of your screen. You don’t need to watch it - I’m going to teach you everything you need to know. So you can just close it.
Around this time, a box will pop up that looks like the one to the left. Wix is asking you to choose a domain name and save your website. You can name your website anything you like. The first part of your URL will contain your email and the name WIX. You get to name the second part. I named this one "bakingblog".
Then, choose SAVE & CONTINUE.
Depending on your computer, you may not see this box immediately. You may need to click SAVE at the top of your screen to have this box pop up and to save your domain name.
You will see an option to publish your site. Do not choose that. Publishing your site makes it "live," meaning that everyone will be able to see it. You don't want to publish your site until it is finished.
So choose DONE.
From now on, you will be making changes to your site, and you don't want to work hard to make those changes, just to lose them if your computer crashes. So, every fifteen minutes or so, please save your site.
Choose SAVE, then DONE.
Again, do not choose to publish your site until it is finished.
And that's it! You started your own website!
You just learned a lot of new information, and some of it may be very confusing... but don't worry!
If you have any questions, just click that little green circle to chat with Mrs. E.
I'm always happy to help!
